Beef shortage: Beef price at $1.5M a day
Beef is a staple in Indian cuisine and a favourite with millions of Indians, but a shortage of the meat has led to beef prices on the rise.
The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday said it has been receiving more than $1 million a day in beef price requests.
In its statement, the agency said it had received requests from consumers who were worried about the beef shortage.
“While we are aware of these requests and are currently assessing the requests, we cannot confirm any specific trends.
However, we do know that beef prices have increased over the last month as the USDA expects to see increased demand for beef,” the agency added.
The price increase comes as the government seeks to ramp up production of beef, and to beef up supply to feed its growing demand.
